BOAT SALES - DataFeeds Explained
Data Feeds
What is a Data Feed?
A data feed is an automated method that allows Boatshed to stream boat listings to third-party websites, commonly known as Multiple Listing Services (MLS). By advertising boats on these platforms, we increase exposure to potential buyers, potentially expediting the sales process.
Boatshed currently offers data feeds to the following platforms:
- YachtWorld / Boats.com: Serving markets in the UK, USA, and Europe.
- RightBoat: Catering to audiences in the UK and worldwide.
- Apollo Duck: A global platform with widespread reach.
Setting Up a Data Feed
To set up a data feed:
- Contact Boatshed Support: Email support@boatshedsupport.com specifying which platforms you'd like to integrate with.
- Activation by Boatshed: Our team will activate the desired feed(s) in the Boatshed Dashboard and confirm once completed.
- Account Creation with MLS: You may need to contact the chosen MLS directly to create an account, depending on the platform.
- Confirmation and Billing: Once the MLS activates your account, they will confirm the setup. Billing procedures vary:
- For platforms like YachtWorld, The Yacht Market, Top Boats, and Rightmove, Boatshed HQ manages activation and billing.
- For other platforms, billing is handled directly between the business owner and the MLS.
Adding a Boat to a Feed
Once your account is active:
- Access the "Feeds" Tab: In the boat's listing within the Dashboard, click on the "Feeds" tab.
- Select Desired Feeds: Tick the checkboxes for the platforms you wish to use.
- Save Your Selections: Click "SAVE" to confirm.
Any changes made within the Dashboard will automatically update on the selected MLS platforms. These feeds are refreshed every few hours to ensure current information is displayed.
Selecting Photos for the Feed
For each data feed, you can choose up to 12 photos to represent your boat:
- Manual Selection: Tick the boxes next to the desired photos; the first 12 selected will be sent to the MLS.
- Default Selection: If no photos are manually selected, a default set predetermined by Boatshed will be used, prioritizing key areas such as the interior, galley, engine, side deck, stern, bow, and hull close-ups.
Indicating VAT Paid Status
To display the VAT paid status on MLS platforms:
- Tick the VAT Paid Box: In the Boatshed Dashboard, select the checkbox indicating the boat has proof of VAT being paid.
- Upload Documentation: Ensure that any VAT paid documents are uploaded in the Media > Documents section of the boat's details.
Removing a Boat from a Feed
If you wish to remove a boat from an MLS:
- Deselect the Feed: Untick the corresponding box under the "Feeds" tab in the boat's listing.
- Automatic Removal: The boat will be removed from the selected platform during the next feed update cycle.
To cancel a subscription to an MLS:
- Direct Contact: Reach out to the MLS company directly.
