DASHBOARD - Location Field

This weeks topic is the LOCATION - LYING field on the website. You'd think this was so simple, but there's many things to consider...

Location, Location, Location

Its all about where the boats LYING from our International customers point of view…is it obvious enough in roughly where the boat is lying? In Europe 75% of boats are sold overseas. In the States the percentage is smaller. So wherever the boat is in the world, is it obvious for the overseas buyer?

Location Dashboard fields

When you are adding a new listing in your Boatshed Dashboard, you'll see the Dashboard listing agreement, click on the Legal & Viewing section to view.

You have two FIELDS  to complete: see below image

  • Vessel lying at: This is the exact berth, pontoon Marina information.
  • Vague location (for publicity): This is a general location so that overseas customers know roughly where the boat is lying.

Examples

You'll start to see what works and what doesn't, below we discuss further what to write and what NOT to write.

Do's

With many of our sales going overseas we must make it easy for them to know the vague location of the boat. Customers will contact us to make an viewing appointment, where we will arrange to meet them in a particular place rather than saying the boat is A Pontoon 27 of X marina

  • Region (rather than town or marina)
  • Country
  • By Appointment Only
  • Be vague

Do not's

  • Marina Name
  • Don't write Berth number and Marina
  • Town name - Does the customer have to google to find out where the boat is? If so making it harder work, more clicks. All info on boat details must be easy to read and all on one page.
  • Don't be specific - we don't want to be cut of of the deal with customer going direct.
  • Don't be specific - pin pointing where the boat is lying is a security risk, because we take detailed photos of gear and equipment.

Simple tips

Now check all your boats, and see what you can improve. You could choose the same phrase for each boat, i.e. GOSPORT UK (By appointment only)
